MARK LANEGAN AND MOBY TO RELEASE NEW COLLABORATION ON RECORD STORE DAY
Mark Lanegan is set to release a new song with Moby, entitled “The Lonely Night,” on April 20. The Record Store Day release will feature the 7″ single as well as a B-side featuring a remix of the song by the Los Angeles-based British artist Photek. Moby recently posted to Facebook: “Shooting a video yesterday for a collaboration we’ll be announcing in April,” along with a photo of the video set (below). Mark Lanegan can be seen on the far right.

“…and in producing the song, spike stent and i incorporated some very unusual production techniques... we ran all of the instruments through a distortion pedal into a guitar amp. so really there are only 3 tracks: left channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, right channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, and mark's vocals. the end result is intentionally very broken and atmospheric."
MARK LANEGAN DISCUSSES NEW QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE ALBUM & SONGWRITING WITH SCREAMING TREES
Here are a couple of excerpts from MusicRadar.com‘s new interview with Mark Lanegan
On Queens of the Stone Age:
“I enjoy working on whatever I’m working on. I definitely enjoy working with Josh, he’s a good friend of mine, he’s another guy I hang out with a lot when I’m not making music. We have a lot of laughs working together, so in that way it is inspiring.”
“I sang a little bit on this new record. Josh and I are always doing stuff, but I don’t have a crystal ball, I can’t tell you what the future holds. But I do know that we enjoy working together and we continue to do so.”
On his songwriting skills growing during his time with the Screaming Trees:
“When I first started writing songs it would be a few words here and there. The guitar player wrote songs and I’d just change some words to make it have some kind of meaning to me because a lot of the stuff he was writing was psychedelia but he had never even tripped on acid so it became real cartoonish. So I had to sing these so I tried to have some sort of meaning to me. Tried and failed, I might add. But by the time we got to the last Trees records I was writing and there was a lot more satisfaction in that. It was a learning curve, when I started I didn’t know anything about music, singing or writing music. It took me a while and I’m still learning.”

Mark Lanegan - on working with Duke Garwood & QotSA, his new 'crooner' album & more
In a new interview with Q Magazine, Mark Lanegan discussed his collaborations and what he’s been recently working on. Lanegan talked about the positive experience he had working with Duke Garwood on their recent collaboration album ‘Black Pudding.’ While discussing his collaborations with various artists such as Josh Homme and Greg Dulli, he said that “the music is secondary to our friendship.” Lanegan also revealed that he will be releasing a new album in the fall of this year.
On the topic of his new record, Lanegan said:
“I wanted to make a record with a crooner-ish type of song, for want of a better term. You know, orchestrated, stuff like Andy Williams or Perry Como would do. I ended-up recording a record like that in February, it’s going to be out in the fall. That was something I wanted to do for years and years.”
Lanegan also added: “I do a John Cale song, a Nick Cave song but in that style. It’s called Imitations.”
Finally, Lanegan said that he’s been writing songs every day for the next Mark Lanegan Band album. The ‘crooner’ album and the new Mark Lanegan Band album are “all [he has] on the docket” right now. Lanegan recently rumored a two-disc anthology set and a new Gutter Twins album in the future, but the interview made no mention of these projects.

Mark Lanegan announced that he will be releasing his new covers album ‘Imitations’ on September 17, 2013. Lanegan discussed the emotional significance of the album in a statement:
“When I was a kid in the late sixties and early seventies, my parents and their friends would play the records of Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Perry Como, music with string arrangements and men singing songs that sounded sad whether they were or not. At home my folks were also listening to country music, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones and Vern Gosdin were some of our favorites. For a long time I’ve wanted to make a record that gave me the same feeling those old records did, using some of the same tunes I loved as a kid and some that I’ve loved as I have gotten older. This record is it. Imitations.”

Mark Lanegan will release an anthology set entitled Has God Seen My Shadow? An Anthology 1989-2011 on Light In The Attic Records. The title is likely related to a lyric from Lanegan’s “Come to Me,” from his album Bubblegum: “Ask God to see my shadow.” Although the anthology does not currently have a release date, the tracklist for the set has been revealed. The anthology will feature twenty previously release tracks as well as 12 unreleased songs.

It was previously rumored that five songs featured in the 2009 film Cook County would appear on Lanegan’s upcoming anthology. However, it now seems that the rumor was either false or the song titles have changed. It is also interesting to note that the first twenty songs, which feature Lanegan songs that have already been released, are ordered in reverse chronological order except for a reversal in the order of tracks from The Winding Sheet and Whiskey for the Holy Ghost.

MARK LANEGAN ENDS MUSICAL PARTNERSHIP WITH ISOBEL CAMPBELL
Nine years after its conception, the musical partnership between Mark Lanegan and Scottish singer Isobel Campbell has come to an end. In a new interview with Transatlantic Modern, Campbell describes her relationship with Lanegan and how their collaboration “turned really sour.”
In the interview, Campbell describes the exhaustion that she endured during the duo’s touring. She became upset when “Mark had secretly booked a solo show for himself using [her] guitarist,” and states that a solo tour is better than having to deal with “all the red tape of ‘Can we play these shows?’”
In addition, Campbell states that “we couldn’t tour [Ballad of the Broken Seas] because he was in rehab.”
Throughout the interview, Campbell voices her displeasure with Lanegan’s grumpiness and unwillingness to play on college radio, on TV, or in-stores. She says that the touring “just didn’t work,” and that “there was no flow.” Campbell will now re-establish herself as a solo artist and is going to write a book.
The duo released three collaborative studio albums during their partnership, Ballad of the Broken Seas in 2006, Sunday at Devil Dirt in 2008, and Hawk in 2010.
