Музыкант, основатель группы The Velvet Underground Лу Рид скончался в возрасте 71 года, сообщает The Rolling Stone.
Официально причина смерти музыканта не называется. В мае 2013 года он перенес операцию по пересадке печени. По словам вдовы Рида Лори Андерсон, до операции он находился в состоянии, угрожавшем его жизни. Вскоре после операции Лу Рид вернулся к активной жизни и, в частности, планировал принять участие в альбоме кавер-версий песен Питера Гэбриела.

Ian Curtis, frontman for the beloved post-punk band, committed suicide in his kitchen on May 18, 1980.
The kitchen table owned by the late Ian Curtis, singer for the post-punk band Joy Division, is up for auction on eBay. The item has already collected 63 bids and its current price is set at 8,200 GBP, or approximately $13,000.
Curtis' suicide on May 18, 1980 is one of music's most tragic gone-too-soon tales. As chronicled in the 2007 movie, Control (based on widow Deborah Curtis' moving memoir, Touching from a Distance), the frontman suffered from epilepsy and depression which contributed to his desperate state on the eve of the band's first North American tour.
Curtis took his own life by hanging himself in the kitchen of his home at 77 Barton Street in Macclesfield, Great Britain, 20 miles outside of Manchester. He was married and a father to a one-year-old daughter at the time.
Fans of the influential band can own a true piece of rock history with this piece, albeit morbidly. Made of wood, the table is describe as 75 cm wide and 98 cm long with extension flaps that add another 28 cm.
According to NME, following Curtis' death, Debbie Curtis sold the house and many of its contents to a neighbor, Dorothy Smith, who operated it as a bed and breakfast. Smith passed down the table to her daughter in 1996 when she got married and settled down in Macclesfield.
The table was then returned to the Curtis family in 2005, and, although offered to director Anton Corbijn for the filming of Control, it was not used.
The table ended up back in the hands of Natalie Curtis, Ian and Debbie's daughter, but was later sold on eBay to its current owner, who is himself a "struggling artist," according to the eBay listing.

Kyuss живее всех живых. Для меня - один из лучших альбомов уходящего года, однозначно, офигенен от начала и до самого конца. Психеделический рок или как они его сами обозвали еще в первые годы 90-х - desert rock. Гарсия все так же хорошо поет, хоть и постарел, Брант Бьорк и его барабаны - все так же прекрасны и вне конкуренции, а бешеный псих Ник Оливери зверски нарезает на басу. С тех пор, как альбом вышел 3 месяца тому назад, все никак не наслушаюсь, мощная пластинка.

как звучит: Так, что Джошу Омму должно быть стыдно: он тут вообще оказался не нужен; Vista Chino, взяв гитаристом безвестного юнца, играют песни, практически неотличимые по звучанию и задору от тех, что были у Kyuss в середине 1990-х. То есть, очень сильно утяжеленный громкими риффами белый южный блюз, напоминающий о лучших годах Black Sabbath.
чем интересно: Омму стоило бы позавидовать и мощности и мужиковости этих песен — сколько он не пытался сделать свои QOTSA главной группой с яйцами мира, у Vista Chino яйца оказываются все-таки заметно круче. Чему завидовать не надо, так это тому, что ничего нового, в общем, Vista Chino предложить не могут — собственно, только риффы, яйца и блюз; а чтобы узнать, как это все может быть подано более оригинально и изобретательно, придется все-таки послушать альбом Queens of the Stone Age «Rated R» 13-летней давности.

Rave Tapes is the eighth studio album by Mogwai and their second on Rock Action, the label they set up almost 18 years ago to issue their debut 7in single, Tuner/Lower. In between, the Scottish quintet have established themselves on the international stage through a prolific recorded output and a commitment to touring that few of their peers can match.
Clocking in at just under 50 minutes, the 10-track album is a lustrous collection mined from the same quarry as its predecessors, wreathed in painterly textures underpinned by increasingly electronic beats. The haunted strains of Deesh channel the slow-burning ecstasy of their 2006 song “Auto Rock” (a key presence in the denouement of Michael Mann’s film of Miami Vice that year) while the guitars on which Mogwai built their reputation remain, if for the most part less overtly belligerent this time round, as evidenced by the somnambulant opener “Heard About You Last Night” and the sonic scowl of “Hexon Bogon”. With Rave Tapes, Mogwai’s mastery of sound and space is firmly at its apex.

The band themselves had this to say about the release:
‘The Crimson ProjeKCt is happy to announce the release of their first official CD “Live in Tokyo” via Inside Out. Performances of classic KC pieces were recorded at Club Citta’ in Tokyo, Japan in March 2012 and represent the sonic power of this unique band. They were meticulously mixed and mastered in pristine sound quality by TCP guitarist Markus Reuter and his award winning ‘Unsung Productions’ team.’
