10 REMARKABLE SIMILARITIES KURT COBAIN & JIMI HENDRIX SHARED
Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix are arguably Seattle’s biggest rock music icons. Jimi was raised in Seattle and left to find fame. Kurt moved to Seattle after finding fame. It’s well know fact that Kurt and Jimi usually played left-handed Fender Stratocaster guitars, which they often smashed onstage, and both died at age 27. Here are 10 other remarkable similarities they shared:
1. Kurt and Jimi both had imaginary childhood friends: Kurt’s was “Boddah” and Jimi’s was “Sessa.” Kurt’s suicide note was written to Boddah.
2. Both Kurt and Jimi had troubled childhoods. Kurt and Jimi’s parents both divorced when they were 9 years old. They were both bounced from relative to relative sometimes living with their parents during their childhoods.
3. Both were arrested twice as teens: Kurt at ages 18 and 19 for spray painting graffiti. Jimi was arrested twice for riding in stolen cars at age 19, which led him to enlist in the Army to avoid a 3 year jail sentence.
4. Both had girlfriends who took care of them financially while they were struggling musicians: Kurt had Tracy Marander, Jimi had many girlfriends/benefactors.
5. Neither held regular jobs for long before forming their iconic bands. Kurt jumped from job to job sometimes as a janitor/custodian though he hated cleaning. Jimi served in the Army for about 1 year and was honorably discharged. Jimi never had another non-music job. He had numerous short stints as guitarist for Little Richard, Ike and Tina Turner, The Isley Brothers, and many others but was usually fired for upstaging them.
6. Both had their original last names changed by previous ancestors. Cobain was originally Coburn, Hendrix was originally Hendricks.
7. Both changed the spelling of their first name as stage names: Jimmy to Jimi and Kurt sometimes used the name Kurdt.
8. Their 1st singles were cover tunes: Nirvana “Love Buzz” (By Shocking Blue), The Jimi Hendrix Experience “Hey Joe” (By Billy Roberts).
9. Both Kurt and Jimi told predicted they would become rich and famous. As a child Jimi told his Aunt Dorthy Harding that he was going move far away to another country, never come back to Seattle, and become rich and famous. At 14, Cobain reportedly told a schoolmate that he would be a superstar musician, get rich and famous, and kill himself in a blaze of glory like Jimi Hendrix, thinking Jimi’s death was a suicide.
10. Both Kurt and Jimi released 3 studio albums during their lifetimes and had about 4 years of international fame before they died.

Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl have commented on the band being chosen to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next April.
In a press release, Nirvana bass player Krist Novaselic said, “This is a great honor. Thank you to the people who nominated and voted for us. Thank you most of all to Kurt Cobain. And to everyone who’s kept Rock music going strong for 60 years and counting.”
The band’s drummer, and later Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, added, “For once… I’m speechless. From the basements, to the dingy clubs, to the broken down vans, to… the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I’d like to thank the committee not only for this induction, but also for recognizing Nirvana for what we were: pure rock and roll.”

Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney has declared April 10, 2014 ‘Nirvana Day.’ On April 10th, Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place just days after the 20 year anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death.
Durney talked about how the band has left a positive impact on all of Grays Harbor County (which includes Aberdeen). “They bring great honor, I think as I say, to our entire community. And I think that it’s good Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a little while, but he and Krist Novoselic are part of our community, and I think it’s good to honor our sons and their great accomplishments.” said Durney in a KXRO article.

ABERDEEN, WA TO CELEBRATE UPCOMING KURT COBAIN DAY WITH NEW STATUE AND TRIBUTE SHOW
Aberdeen, WA, hometown of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, will celebrate its first annual Kurt Cobain Day this Thursday, February 20. Kurt Cobain Day was recently commemorated when Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson proclaimed the annual celebration for Cobain’s “artistic achievements.” This upcoming February 20th would have marked the late singer’s 47th birthday.
According to the Seattle Times, festivities for this year’s Kurt Cobain Day will occur at the Aberdeen Museum of History, “when a Cobain statue by local artist Randi Hubbard will be unveiled, followed by a performance by Aberdeen hard rock band Gebular.” In attendance at the festivities will be “Warren Mason, Cobain’s guitar teacher, as well as Aaron Burckhard, Nirvana’s first drummer.” A second commemorative rock concert and library memorabilia exhibition are also planned for Aberdeen.
Aberdeen declared February 20th Kurt Cobain Day just weeks after the neighboring town of Hoquiam declared April 10th Nirvana Day, the same day the band will be celebrating their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and days after the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death. Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney said that Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic are “part of [their] community” and “bring great honor.”
TEARY-EYED KURT COBAIN STATUE UNVEILED IN ABERDEEN
A statue of a teary-eyed Kurt Cobain was unveiled yesterday in Cobain’s hometown Aberdeen, WA at the Aberdeen Museum of History as part of the ‘Kurt Cobain Day’ festivities to celebrate the late Nirvana frontman’s birthday. Sculptor Randi Hubbard began building the statue from concrete, pipes and other materials shortly after Cobain’s death in 1994 and after some resistance from city officials it is now being embraced and put display.

Hey Seattle what’s up, I used to live with Kurt Cobain back in the 90s and I have been holding on to a bunch of his stuff that he left in a box when he moved out. He owed us rent and said he would get the box when he came back and gave us money but he never came back, then when he was famous he never really talked to any of us again because courtney never liked us but she’s a dick so no hard felings.
i am sure it would be easy for you to think that this stuff is fake, but i have pictures of kurt with some of it and i have som friends that will talk to you that will say that this is kurts stuff. we lived together in capitol hill and for a short time in olympia, i was in some very popular bands back then but now i am not playing any music anymore, but if anybody reading this wants to jam, let me know heh heh.
some of this stuff is pretty historical as he was using it whem he was signing his first record contracts, like the phone i know i think he used to talk on the phone to people in LA. that is why it is expensive.
the Swatch phone is a twin phone which means that two people can talk on it at the same time, i remember in the commercials that two people would talk on it at the same time, like a girl would listen in while the other girl was talking, it is in really good condition and is $55.
Kurt was learning to skii when i met him, we went to mount baker a few times to hit the slopes, these are his skiis but i do not have the poles or anything. the bindings are pretty loose but they are good skiis, but of course they are a lot cooler because they are kurts. They are $80
This TOMY game is called “kingman” and is kindof like donkey kong. kurt liked to play this game a lot, it is in good condition but there is some corossion near the battery part. it is still cool tho, and you can have it for $25.
I am willing to meet in belltown near the croc or at the sculpture park, but you can also come to my apartment if you are interested in these items. i also have a lot more stuff of kurts, like magazine and clothes that i will be selling off soon. thank you for looking.

FutureRockLegends reports that drummer Chad Channing will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl. Channing drummed for the band from 1988 until 1990, and drummed on Nirvana’s first album Bleach. Channing has said that he will attend the induction but does not plan on performing. Channing told us in a 2009 interview regarding a performance, “Don’t think we could do a Nirvana song without Kurt. Just wouldn’t feel the same. Not all that sure they’d invite me for the stage presentation anyways, lol.” Channing currently plays in Before Cars.
Channing so far is the only member set to be inducted outside of the core Cobain/Novoselic/Grohl lineup. Touring guitarist Pat Smear never recorded studio material with the band but played on the smash hit MTV Unplugged. If Smear himself isn’t inducted, I can’t think of anyone better to give the induction speech.

Former Nirvana drummer Chad Channing has announced on his Facebook that despite reports, he will not be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Nirvana.
“Just a heads up to everyone. Contrary to what has been said. The RRHOF says they will not be inducting me along with Kurt,Krist & Dave.”
So it appears that Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl are currently the only members of Nirvana who will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame next month.
