Ничего не имею против Джерри, он хороший парень, однако разве Лейн не УМЕР»? Помимо этого она отписалась, что выступление было плохим, а игра на бас-гитаре Криста Новоселича была просто ужасной. ©

Krist was also asked about David Lee Roth and said he would love to play with him and thinks he is a great. Krist also mentioned about if the desire and passion for new material is there, he would love to tour ‘in a heartbeat’ but doesn’t want to be an oldies act.

There were times when we didn’t know what was going to happen, like put Paul McCartney in a room with Nirvana and cross your fingers that something cool happens.” Grohl added, “If it had only been a day in the studio and no one had ever seen it or heard it and I had never done it again, I would die a happy man. Just the fact that it happened, to me, was enough.” Grohl discussed the significance of the McCartney/Nirvana portion of the Sound City film where Nirvana and McCartney are shown writing their song, “The McCartney song was the biggest secret (in the project). A few things leaked out, but the McCartney thing — we couldn’t give (that information) away because this is — spoiler alert — THE moment. At the first few test screenings we did, the moment where Paul appears there were audible gasps in the room. When we were editing that segment, I said ‘I don’t want a holy shit moment, I want a HOLY FUCK moment.’ I was at a screening in Salt Lake City (Jan. 22) and that moment he appears onscreen, you could just hear (the audience say) ‘Jesus Christ’ as if the thing couldn’t be tied up in a more beautiful bow than that. It really creates a cool moment.”

Но заслужить репутацию nicest guy in rock – это одно, а уметь ею пользоваться – немного другое, и режиссерский дебют Грола в этом смысле как нельзя более показателен. Я не пытаюсь сказать, что Дейв оказался еще и выдающимся кинематографистом (это, пожалуй, было бы все-таки чересчур) – но предположительно поставленные им цели фильм выполняет, во-первых, блестяще, а, во-вторых, удачно эксплуатируя не только профессиональные, но и человеческие достоинства Грола. Если вкратце, то “Sound City” – история рождения, взлета, падения, нового взлета и кончины одноименной звукозаписывающей студии в Лос-Анджелесе, которая даже в свои лучшие годы выглядела как дешевый мотель из фильмов про одноэтажную Америку, зато подарила миру десятки великих пластинок в диапазоне от “Fleetwood Mac” до “Queens of the Stone Age”. Здесь записывались Нил Янг (Neil Young) и Том Петти (Tom Petty), Сантана (Santana) и Grateful Dead, Foreigner и Cheap Trick, Nine Inch Nails и Rage Against the Machine, Джонни Кэш (Johnny Cash) и Элвис Костелло (Elvis Costello) – а также, чтобы мало не показалось, альбом “Nevermind”. С пролога, как бы воссоздающего путешествие молодых музыкантов Nirvana в легендарную студию, откуда они вскоре выйдут с записью, изменившей мир, “Sound City” предсказуемо начинается, но это не банальное путешествие по волнам чьей-либо памяти и уж тем более не ярмарка тщеславия (хотя, справедливости ради, именно “Nevermind” студию в свое время спас). С энтузиазмом ребенка в магазине игрушек и с мудростью родителя, знающего, на что потратиться, Грол сразу выбирает в истории Sound City Studios самый многозначительный символ и самый интересный артефакт – уникальный звукорежиссерский пульт, на котором все, собственно, и записывалось. Обсудить этот пульт – Neve - Грол успевает со всеми, включая его пожилого создателя (по такому случаю режиссер и рок-звезда притворяется одновременно нерадивым школьником и Квентином Тарантино, украшая экран комиксовыми сносками типа “jeez…”), но чем дальше, тем очевиднее становится, что разговор ведется не про машину, а про то, какие эмоции она вынимает из людей по обе стороны студийного стекла. К какой бы теме ни обращался Грол, все возвращается к конкретным живым людям – их чувствам и обидам (Рик Спрингфилд, вспоминая грехи молодости, в какой-то момент чуть не плачет), их устремлениям и мотивациям и, конечно, звукам у них в головах. Ну и немудрено, что, найдя своим многочисленным героям одного-единственного, но могущественного антагониста – программу ProTools, - Грол изящно переходит к третьему акту, обреченному заинтересовать даже тех, кому нет никакого дела ни до истории рок-н-ролла, ни до вписанного в нее звукорежиссерского пульта. Сюжетный “твист” состоит в том, что после окончательного закрытия Sound City Studios Грол купил этот пульт, установил его в собственной студии и пригласил в нее многих причастных к этой истории, от Стиви Никс (Stevie Nicks) и того же Спрингфилда до Трента Резнора и – на правах джокера – Пола Маккартни (Paul McCartney). С “Битлз”, объясняет Дейв, началась его любовь к музыке, ну а студия Sound City сделала Грола тем, кем он является, так что если уж устраивать “реюнион Nirvana”, то именно с сэром Полом у микрофона и Бутчем Вигом (Butch Vig) за ручками Neve. Many have speculated regarding who will front the Nirvana performance when the band is inducted into the Hall of Fame.
