MARK LANEGAN ON POSSIBILITY OF SCREAMING TREES REUNION
When asked about the possibility of a Screaming Trees reunion in a recent Irish Times interview, Mark Lanegan responded: “No, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Not interested. I was excited when the Afghan Whigs got back together. Soundgarden are good friends of mine. I totally get why they’d want to do it. It’s their music, it’s their band. It’s their right to do it. But it’s not something I’m interested in doing with Screaming Trees.”
Mark Lanegan: Imitations is the sincerest form of flattery
From Screaming Trees to his current solo work, Mark Lanegan has proved himself to be the quintessential musical journeyman. His latest release is his second covers album ‘Imitations’. And this time it’s personal

MARK LANEGAN SAYS HE’S TIRED OF BEING ASKED ABOUT GRUNGE & NIRVANA
In a new interview with Exclaim, Mark Lanegan said he’s tired of being asked about Grunge and Nirvana:
“To be honest, when I do interviews with North American press, it’s usually a lot of questions about grunge music, Nirvana — ‘How do you feel about the new Nirvana reissue?’ — that kind of shit. So, you know, it’s not much fun to discuss that stuff over and over again. That doesn’t happen in Europe. I think a lot of people that listen to my music over there might not even be aware of the Screaming Trees. In fact, I know that’s true. It’s not like I’m ashamed of it, but it’s like talking about that year of kindergarten over and over again. It was a learning experience, and that’s about it.”

If a coyote cut a record, it might sound a bit like Pickerel - lonesome and distant and wrought with earnest emotion. --No Depression
Founding member of Screaming Trees, collaborator with Neko Case, Kurt Cobain & Nirvana, Mark Pickerel returns with a mood music masterpiece featuring members of Jack White, The Intelligence and the Mark Lanegan Band. This new album, Tess, proves from the first sly, seductive note that you'll be powerless to resist the charms of this barroom-prowling troubadour. Pickerel roams the treacherous terrain of romance like its the Wild West. Tess is tumbleweed noir - a dusky landscape littered with empty bottles and broken dreams, where bedrooms are ghost towns and love - while not exactly a battlefield - could easily land you in a jail cell. Tess is an album full of last waltzes for last call - impure siren songs, if you will. A seductive invitation to not play it safe.

Mark Pickerel has long been one of the more interesting and eclectic talents in the Pacific Northwest, drumming for the Screaming Trees and the grunge power trio Truly, a session musician for the likes of Brandi Carlile and Neko Case, and stepping into the spotlight as lead vocalist in his own bands, the Dark Fantastic and his new group, “His Praying Hands.”
On “Tess,” Pickerel’s first album since 2008’s “Cody’s Dream,” Pickerel’s voice is soaked in moody regret, a sinuous baritone that somehow manages to make lost love sound more enticing than the kind that lasts. In Pickerel’s hands, love gone wrong certainly results in more intriguing songs, as in “Your Wild West,” which seems to channel the loping stride of the Doors’ “People Are Strange.”
Pickerel, who sings and plays acoustic guitar, has more than a little of the Doors’ Jim Morrison in him, in both his vocal delivery and the wry playfulness of his lyrics (“We build the traps like working rats/They build their fortunes on our backs”). His musicians provide suitably atmospheric alt-country backing on Pickerel’s lost highway ramblings.
